About Lebanon
Lebanon offers an extraordinary variety of experiences within a very small country. You can swim in the Mediterranean in the morning and be in the mountains by the afternoon, visit Roman temples in Baalbek, walk through centuries-old streets in Byblos, or enjoy Beirut’s cafés, nightlife, and coastal views. Food, history, and hospitality are woven into everyday life. Whether you're planning to explore before or after the wedding, here’s a little guide to help you fall in love with Lebanon too.
Geography
Lebanon is a small country with an outsized landscape. Alongside its Mediterranean coast are mountains, valleys, rivers, and remarkable natural wonders like the Jeita Grotto, all within a few hours’ drive. From historic cities like Beirut, Byblos, and Batroun, to the forested hills of the Chouf, the serene Qadisha Valley, and the Chouwan Lake, the scenery shifts quickly, inviting exploration at every turn.
Areas to Avoid: While Lebanon is generally a safe and welcoming destination for visitors, it’s best to avoid areas near the southern border and some remote regions in the northeast due to political sensitivities. In well-known destinations, visitors are welcomed with the warmth and generosity Lebanon is famous for.
Lebanon is home to around six million people and is known for its rich mosaic of religious, cultural, and linguistic communities. Arabic is the official language, but English and French are widely spoken and often mixed into daily life - it’s common to see signs, menus, and conversations switch between all three. Don't be shy to say a few words in Arabic - even a simple "Merci kteer!" (Thank you very much!) or a “Hi, Kifak?, Cava?” (Hello, how are you? Good?) goes a long way.
